10 Key Values of the Green Party
Grassroots Democracy
Everyone should have a say in the decisions that affect their lives. We support increased participation in government at all levels and accountability of our public representatives to the people who elect them.
- Non-Violence
While recognizing the need to defend ourselves and protect the helpless, the Green Party promotes the nonviolent resolution of disputes, with the goals of personal, community, and global peace.
- Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
All persons in a society should have equal access to the rights and opportunities offered by it. We seek to consciously confront, in ourselves and our organizations, barriers such as racism, class oppression, sexism, homophobia, and ageism.
- Ecological Wisdom
Humans are not separate from nature, and must operate within the ecological and resource limits of our communities and planet.
- Community –Based Economics
A healthy economic system offers meaningful work at a living wage. We support locally owned and operated enterprises, and the use of locally produced goods and food.
- Decentralization
Decision making, as much as possible, should be on a local and individual level. Concentration of power in the few leads to economic and social injustice.
- Gender Equality
The values of interpersonal responsibility, honesty, and respect for differences of opinion and gender must be consciously developed.
- Respect for Diversity
Healthy communities depend on respectful relationships between diverse cultural, religious, ethnic, sexual, and racial groups.
- Future Focus
We must balance short term gains with the assurance that our development, technology, and policies are responsible to future generations which will inherit
the results.
- Personal and Global Responsibility
The Green Party is committed to lifestyles based on sufficiency and global sustainability.
